Jigarthanda is completely original, clarifies Karthik Subburaj

Directed by Karthik Subburaj of Pizza fame, Jigarthanda is a gangster musical featuring Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in lead roles. For the past one week, netizens have been discussing in hushed whispers on social media platforms about the similarities in premise between the Korean neo-noir gangster film A Dirty Carnival and Karthik’s Jigarthanda. Now, the film-maker has come to the rescue and cleared the air.

“Jigarthanda is a completely original film. Though we have seen a lot of gangster films in the past, Jigarthanda was conceived to present the audiences a fresh content with a different backdrop and story-line. We have been so conscious that Jigarthanda’s taste should be much better than Pizza and sculptured the screenplay with meticulous care. For now, I would like to register that we are not plagued by creative drought to get inspired from others to make a film. When you watch Jigarthanda, you will also realize the same,” clarifies Karthik Subburaj.
