Isaignani Ilaiyaraja has sent legal notice to director Shankar for rearranging his song ‘Ooru Vittu Ooru Vandhu” in his recently released film Kappal directed by his protege Karthik Krish. Ilaiyaraja’s advocate SK Ragunathan has sent a legal notice to director Shankar demanding royalty for the song or refrain from using it in the film. Ilaiyaraja is planning to set about criminal or civil proceedings if Shankar failed to abide by the notice.
Apparently, Shankar has bought rights for the song from Agi Music Pvt Ltd, who Ilaiyaraja says has no association with him whatsoever. “Agi Music Pvt Ltd has no ownership or publishing rights in respect of the song. The Madras High Court has granted an interim injection restraining Agi Music Pvt Ltd and others from exploiting the musical works of my client for thousands of films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada,” says Ragunathan.
