“I was the main reason for Jayalalitha’s defeat in 1996 election,” rues Rajinikanth
Superstar Rajinikanth paid rich tributes to former Chief Minister Jayalalitha in his eulogy at the condolence meet organized by Nadigar Sangam yesterday in the city.
“I had hurt her in the 1998 assembly polls. I criticized her and hurt her feelings deeply. I was the main reason for her defeat in the election,” said Rajinikanth who recalled how she generously attended Dhanush and Aishwarya’s wedding without any animosity in heart. It must be remembered that Superstar said ‘Even God Can’t Save TN if Jayalalitha comes back to power’ in 1996, a remark which went viral across papers and tabloids then.
“Some disciples outperform their gurus. It would not be a hyperbole to say Jayalalitha surpassed her guru MGR in both politics and political achievements,” he added.
