Hey Sinamika Movie Review
A not-so-great romantic comedy where Dulquer scores!

Romantic comedies have been tried and tested in Kollywood for a long time, and the latest to join the list is Hey Sinamika, a film which once again deals with the concept of love triangle in Tamil cinema.
The film has Yaazhan (Dulquer Salmaan) leading a life with his wife Mouna (Aditi Rao Hydari). Few years into their marriage, and Mouna realizes that Yaazhan isn’t a perfect fit for her in every way, and decides to take help from Malarvizhi, a relationship counsellor who calls herself a specialist at splitting relationships. Does Malarvizhi fall in love with Yaazhan and help Mouna separate from him? That’s the story of Hey Sinamika.
The film has a breezy and crazy first half where Dulquer’s earnest portrayal of an over enthusiastic man works well and brings up laughs here and there. The film takes help from its support actors such as RJ Vijay and hops along quite freely in the first half. But in the second, the film takes a wrong turn and gets more crooked than it should. The logical reasoning behind the actions taken by the characters goes for a toss, and there is hardly any emotional connect for the characters on the screen. The film does not do justice too it’s plot as the trio act in weird ways leading to a predictable and melodramatic ending which was uncalled for.
Hey Sinamika is made watchable thanks to Dulquer, who oozes charm and keeps the momentum going even when the film is not offering much.
The leads in Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal hardly have anything special to offer and are happy to just do their job basically. The film’s support cast is locked nicely, but though they have good things to do at places, they do not create a major impact.
Watch out for the neat cinematography which is carried out efficiently. Govind Vasantha’s songs are not great, and only act as speed breakers in an already bumpy movie.
On the whole, Hey Sinamika will be a passable watch for those who love romantic films but for the others, it will be a test of patience, particularly in the second half. Hey Sinamika Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
