“Fulfill your promises with earnest commitment,” appeals Suriya
Suriya has opened up about the Nadigar Sangam elections for the first time and posted a letter (in Tamil) on his official micro-blogging page yesterday. A translation of the same is below for your reading.
This Nadigar Sangam election has taught us several lessons. A lot of woeful things happened during the campaign period. Disparaging remarks were passed on individuals in the name of criticism. Peace-keeping attempts went in vain. Duties were traded as aids. Those who said ‘Actors are a family’ also exploited caste, religion and language to bring disparity in the family. They ridiculed on the successes and failures of movies. Senior actors, who should have been treated with culture and respect, were held in disdain for supporting a particular group. Never again a situation like this should arise in Tamil cinema.
As a fellow actor, here is my request to the newly elected office bearers. Don’t consider your ‘duties’ as ‘aids’. Be an exemplar of success in the way senior actors are treated. Work hard for the betterment of all the artists. Fulfill the promises of your manifesto with earnest commitment. Ward off enmity and make way for unity. The trust and expectations other actors have placed on you is your real success. Let’s all work together for the prosperous growth of the actors and film industry.
My Best Wishes to Everyone
Suriya
