Tamil cinema keeps providing these small surprises at regular intervals this year, and we get another good film that achieves what it intended to with DieNoSirs, a gangster drama that authentically takes us to North Madras and the fun with the bad men there.

Die No Sirs is based on a story of two brothers and their mutual friend. While the three of them share a good rapport with each other, they are constantly affected in their lives by the gangsters of the area and the influence that the big men have on their henchmen. When one of them falls into trouble for an earlier wrongdoing, it starts off a domino fall on each other, with both sides paying the price. The start of Die No Sirs does not much in terms of plot progression, as we are slowly introduced to the characters. It is only closer to the interval block that the film picks up pace big time, and presents a very thrilling 30 minute sequence that absorbs our attention to the film.

When most would think that the second half is going to be a usual revenge drama, the film takes a turn on its head and becomes a full-fledged comic entertainer, where the hero picks up the idea of irritating the local gangsters to the core in order to get his job done. The film moves at a good pace in the second half and has a superb death sequence and a convincing climax to end things on a good note.

Die No Sirs has very good performance from its lead Uday Karthick, Maara and the rest of the cast who are mostly newcomers who perform very well. The film also has the music by Bobo Shashi as its big highlight, there is a specific trumpet BGM which works so well in the proceedings.

Though the setting of the film has been done in an unadulterated, unaltered way, Die No Sirs manages to pack in interesting incidents one after the other and keep the audience engaged. If you are a fan of local gangster dramas, this might be the one for you.

Die No Sirs Movie Review Rating: 3.25/5
