Dhanush in talks for Iranian-born French filmmaker Marjane Satrapi’s next
At the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, Iranian-born French film-maker Marjane Satrapi disclosed exclusive details about her next project to the press. Interestingly, she has revealed that Dhanush is in talks to play the lead part Fakir for this English-language film which is an adaptation of Romain Puertolas’s bestselling novel “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe”.
The book narrates the story of the misadventures of a prankster who travels from New Delhi to France and falls in love with a Parisian woman. However, he gets deported to a less-familiar European nation along with a bunch of African refugees.
“It’s a story about love, magic and adventure and it takes place across three continents. I’m drawn to fantasy stories and I love creating worlds that don’t exist, imagining things in bigger and more beautiful ways because reality bores me. This movie will touch on immigration but as always, in a light and humorous way,” told Satrapi to Variety.
Dhanush already has a platter full of films – an untitled ongoing project with Velraj, another untitled film with Prabhu Solomon and his long-gestating Soodhadi with Vetrimaaran which will reportedly go on floors in September. Sources also suggest that he is one of the contenders for Mani Ratnam’s next, which is said to be a straight Hindi film.
