The much-awaited film of Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiayaan is postponed to May 23rd due to technical difficulties, says an official press note. Even as the advance bookings for the film started in Chennai yesterday amidst much fanfare, the bookings have suddenly stopped in all theatres. Meanwhile, the horror comedy Yaamiruka Bayamey featuring Kreshna, Rupa Manjari, Oviya and Karuna has been preponed to May 9th to fill in Kochadaiiyaan’s slot. And, Santhanam’s Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham which is censored sometime back with a clean ‘U’ is also likely to join the race. Now, the recent development is that Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green has snapped up the distribution rights of VPA and will release the film all over TN this weekend either on May 10th or 11th.
The postponement of Kochadaiiyaan has created tremors in the industry for many reasons. We have three films lined up for release over the next two weeks. Ascar Films’ Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah on May 15th, Bhooloham and Jigarthanda on May23rd. With Kochadaiiyaan releasing on May 23rd, TEN might have to enjoy a shorter stint in theatres and puts the team and its stakeholders in jeopardy. And, Jigarthanda and Bhooloham may have to reshuffle their dates and work out a fresh strategy.
A bad news to Thalaivar fans indeed. We hope Rajinikanth roars back with a renewed vigour soon. Please find below the official press release from the Kochadaiiyaan team.
