Thalapathy Vijay’s Bigil has dethroned Thala Ajith’s Viswasam in its 24 days of theatrical run to emerge as the top-grossing Tamil film ever in Tamil Nadu. Now, it’s the only second film to sail past the Rs 140 crores gross mark in the state after Baahubali 2. The film has pulled in a massive distributor share of more than Rs 80 crores in the state, excluding GST.
Earlier, Vijay had become the first actor in Tamil cinema to score three consecutive Rs 70 crores shares (i.e., Rs 125+ crores grossers) in TN. Now, Bigil has emerged as 2019’s highest-grossing film in all South Indian states and the all-time highest ever in Kerala. It’s also 2019’s top-grossing Tamil film, overseas and worldwide. The Atlee-directed sports drama has raked in more than Rs 200 crores domestic gross and is nearing Rs 300 crores worldwide gross until the fourth weekend.
