Baahubali Movie Preview

SS Rajamouli’s gravely-anticipated magnum-opus BAAHUBALI is all set for worldwide release on July 10th. This is the first time an Indian film is releasing in in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi simultaneously.

The film features an ensemble cast of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannah, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, Nassar and Sudeep in important roles. We have compiled some of the best quotes from the cast to give you a glimpse of what to expect as we all gear up for the visual extravaganza in just two days.

What is the story of the film?

It’s the simple story of a father who has been back-stabbed, a mother who has been enchained for no wrong of hers and the story of a son who takes revenge. The two parts span two generations,” says SS Rajamouli.

Rana Daggubati

Every hero gets to play a solid villain once. Prabhas and I trained in bodybuilding and martial arts for six months in Hyderabad. We have used Indian weapons in the film, trained in horse and chariot riding

Prabhas

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I climbed rocks, did martial arts, sword fighting and horse riding. You can never do a film like this again. I really worked hard for it especially on my physique. Sometimes I used to take only eggs for 30-40 days to get into shape for one character.

Tamannah

People have seen me playing the glam doll all the time and this role will come as a revelation. I play Avanthika, a character from an unspecified era. A lot of thought went into the costume and jewelry to get the look right

Anushka Shetty

Rajamouli’s way of telling a story, the way he presents he each character, his eye for detail makes the experience very special for an actor. He knows how to extract a performance

Baahubali is more or less my tribute to Mahabharata, says SS Rajamouli

My biggest inspirations were Amar Chitra Katha comics and Mahabharat. For many years, Baahubali has resided as an idea in my head. It was through the pages of these comics, I envisioned the world of Baahubali. My father had introduced me to these comics at a young age. Ever since then, I’ve been living in this world of larger-than-life characters. I love fantasy, history, folklore and mythology. I dabbled a little with these genres in my previous films. The success of those films gave us confidence to make Baahubali, which is more or less my tribute to Mahabharata.

Baahubali in Numbers

Baahubali required an extensive cast of 2,000 extras for its battle scenes, with more than 1,000 dressed as soldiers in full costume. About 500-600 technicians, as well as horses and elephants, were also utilised, and 600 artists from 17 studios across worked on CGI visual effects

Billed as the most expensive film in Indian cinema, the first part, Baahubali – The Beginning, is releasing in close to 350 screens in Tamil Nadu by Studio Green. The budget of this two-installment period-action drama (both parts) was revealed to be more than Rs. 250 crores by SS Rajamouli in an interview.
