Asvins Movie Review

Vasanth Ravi arrives with another unique and interesting film that achieves its aim in parts. Down goes our Asvins Movie Review.

Vasanth Ravi’s choices as an actor have been few and far in between, with the actor managing to do just two films so far in Taramani and Rocky. With both of them turning out to be out-of-the-box choices, the third one arrives through his latest film in Asvins.

Asvins is about a group of YouTubers, who after delivering viral videos in India, get a chance to explore a big haunted house in London. The film begins with an explanation of history and mythology, and then moves on to a terrific found footage sequence akin ‘The Blair Witch Project’ which form the first twenty minutes of the film. That sequence alone makes the price of your ticket worth, as there are numerous scares and an eerie feel maintained through the sequence. After that, Asvins moves into a typical zone of a horror thriller with a generous number of jump scares. Though director Tarun Teja lacks the clarity to narrate the storyline in a linear, clear manner, he makes up for it with the constant scares, brilliant sound design and a small surprise at the end.

Vasanth Ravi feels comfortable playing the lead, and has a strong part in the film. There is a good amount of scope to prove himself as an actor, and he does take up the opportunity and perform well.

Saraswathy Menon is a good fit to the film while the rest of the actors have done well too.

The film benefits big time from its setting and the cinematography, which at times is off the mark with green scaling and such, is fine overall. The background score and the sound design is what makes it click.

On the whole, Asvins is a decent thriller which will satisfy fans of the horror genre.

Verdict: A horror thriller that constantly manages to deliver jump scares.
