Aishwarya talks about Dhanush, Anirudh, VRV, Yuvan and directing Rajinikanth
Aishwarya Dhanush has spoken in length about directing her father, living up to Dhanush’s name, Vai Raja Vai, On choosing Yuvan over Anirudh for VRV and her most unforgettable experience with Ilaiyaraja in an interview to a radio channel. We have compiled the excerpts from the same for our readers below.
Pressure of coming from a filmy family is definitely a tough thing. It’s not like we get everything easily. We gotta live up to the name. So instead of taking it as a burden, we have to take it as a challenge.
School Life
I didn’t get any proposal in school life. I had a boring school life. I even did my college in correspondence so I was more of an introvert.
Vai Raja Vai
Whether the title is big or small, it should be catchy. VRV is a catchy title, and also appropriate for my film. That’s why I zeroed on it. VRV is completely contrast to 3. My debut revolved around only two main characters, but VRV is pictured on a man and the many people in his life. There are a lot of characters with each having a role to play. The script demanded it. I’m thankful to AGS for citing to my needs and giving me the space to bring out the ideas. The film is almost ready and we are looking at an April release. The big starcast is a big boost to the film. Gautham is very lucky to act with all these veterans like Vivek sir, Manobala sir, Vasanth sir etc. VRV is a group effort and not a single standout person’s product.
Dhanush’s role in VRV
It was a disappointment that we revealed Dhanush’s name and getup in VRV. I wanted to have it as a surprise. But due to some over enthusiastic people who got a tad too excited, we added it at the end of the trailer. It will be an interesting portion in the movie.
On Directing Rajinikanth
I want to remain a fan. I don’t think I’ll direct dad. I’m not sure if I can do a film at that level. I’m happy this way. I want to carve an image for myself. But that is not my first motive. I am very proud to be my father’s daughter and also the same as my husband’s wife. Whatever I do in life, it will be tough to even get equal with dad and Dhanush. I’ll be happy if I can live up to their name.
On choosing Yuvan over Anirudh for Vai Raja Vai
Working with Anirudh again was a big pressure for me. Because of the hit factor, especially Kolaveri, people will compare with 3 and will anyways say that it is a step less than 3. That’s the reason why I went to Yuvan. You can call it selfish, but it was a safe bet. Yuvan didn’t even listen to the story and accepted the film. Since we are childhood friends, we had a comfort level where I could correct or change something. If Yuvan sits and works, he is the best in the business. But making him sit is the problem. Coming from Ilaiyaraaja sir’s house, it is tense to even sit on the composing table. But Yuvan has made a mark for himself and the amount of fans says it all. He has worked a lot for my film and you will hear the results while watching it.
Most unforgettable experience with Ilaiyaraja
I like vibrations in temples and the peace that you find there. Basically I’m a very spiritual person. The trip to Thiruvannamalai with Ilaiyaraaja uncle was one of the most unforgettable ones for me. When I had got the thought of going to Thiruvannamalai, I immediately called him up. To my good luck, he was already there. I dropped everything, took my car and drove all the way. I had no I idea that he was there for a girivalam but some things just happen to you and this was one of them.
