One of the most surprising new year eve announcements was Aishwarya Dhanush’s next directorial project Mariyappan, a biopic on the inspiring tale of Tamil Nadu’s physically challenged high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu, who bagged gold medal at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro last year and went on to be celebrated unanimously across the length and breadth of the nation. Mariyappan, who hails from the village Periyavadagampatti in Salem, became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the high jump category at Paralympics.
Director Raju Murugan, who earned accolades for his political satire Joker, has been roped in to write dialogues for the film. Velraj will crank the camera and Sean Roldan has been signed to compose music for this much-anticipated project. How Mariyappan’s mother shaped his career is an important part of his life story and it will be interesting to see who Aishwarya signs for the role. Will it be Saranya Ponvannan? Keep your fingers crossed!
