Thoongaavanam is an official remake of French film Sleepless Night
There were rumors over the past few days that Kamal Haasan’s Thoongaavanam is an official remake of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler. However, when we confirmed with a bankable source in the unit, it denied it promptly. “It’s definitely not the remake of Nightcrawler but an official remake of a film which Kamal Haasan purchased rights for. Kamal has adapted the film to suit the sensibilities of local audiences with the help of SuKa, the dialogue writer,” says the source.
Our trustable sources confirm that Thoongavanam is an official remake of the French film Sleepless Night (Nuit Blanche). The three French stuntmen – Virginie Arnaud, Gilles Conseil and Sylvian Gabet – who worked in Sleepless Night have been recently signed by Kamal Haasan to work in Thoongavanam too. And, Kamal Haasan plays a cop who has a connection to the underworld in the film. That’s what the log-line of Sleepless Night is all about. And, of course the conspicuous similarity in the title too suggests the same.
Premise of Sleepless Night from IMDB: “A cop with a connection to the criminal underworld finds his secret life exposed when he and his partner are caught stealing cocaine from a powerful drug dealer, a move that puts his son’s life in jeopardy.”
