2015 sure does look like a bankable year with a lot of promising films in the pipeline. Biggies and small ones balanced, we have an interesting lineup of films for all sections of the audience. Down below, we rank down the Top 25 most anticipated films of the year.

  1. I

Sans any doubt, Shankar’s I is the most awaited film of the year. Being the first big film to hit the screens, this Pongal frontrunner is nothing but a beast. Talent and expertise galore on both the casting and technical sides, I will definitely be a trendsetter which will change the face of Tamil cinema for the years to come.

  1. Uttama Villain

Throughout 2014, Kamal Hassan has been busy making films. And this is the year where it will be brought to the big screen. Uttama Villain is ostensibly the first of the three, and will be out by the end of February. With a stellar star cast, the film promises tantalizing visuals and an abundance of wit and humor.

  1. Yennai Arindhaal

This film has been making a noise ever since Thala Ajith and Gautham Menon got together to form a dream combo. With the teaser, trailer and the songs working in its favor, there is nothing stopping Yennai Arindhaal from becoming one of the most awaited films of the year.

  1. Puli

Probably the biggest film in Vijay’s career till date, Puli is said to be a fantasy adventure set in one of the early dynasties. Brimming with a mammoth star cast, Puli will definitely be a shining stone in the Ilayathalapathy’s book.

  1. Vishwaroopam 2

Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam was undoubtedly the best biggie of 2013, and fans are expecting something twice as impressive in the sequel. Kamal has always stressed that Vishwaroopam 2 will be different from the first, with more of emotions and human values.

  1. Anegan

KV Anand’s films are always high on entertainment. With Dhanush at the front of things, Anegan looks like a fun, speedy rollercoaster which will keep us on the edge of our seats. Dangamaari, enough said.

Supposedly the story of Suriya helping out three ghosts, Masss sounds like a brisk and cheesy entertainer from the looks of it. Things get even better when we have Nayanthara, Pranitha and Yuvan on board.

  1. Papanasam

Kamal’s idea of remaking Drishyam with the same director seems to be a real good one. Ulaganayagan, Gauthami and Gibran are worth banking upon to provide a different angle to an already amazing script.

  1. 10 Enradhukulla

Vikram’s next release after the magnum opus I, will be this road action movie which has Samantha playing his girl. Directed by Vijay Milton who is fresh from the success of his Goli Soda, this is a film worth waiting for. The added buzz about Vikram working with the director once again after this makes this a touch more interesting.

10.  Okay Kanmani

The coveted combo of Mani Ratnam, PC Sreeram and AR Rahman coming back together, along with the lovable pair of Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon. Okay Kanmani is progressing quickly and will hit the screens as a summer release.

11.   Enakkul Oruvan

The remake of Lucia. Siddharth in two rip-roaring makeovers. Santhosh Narayanan. Three big reasons to make this one special.

12.   Kaaki Sattai

However innovative our directors get with their minds, the fun of watching a commercial entertainer is a variant feel, altogether. The Ethirneechal team gets back together for a cop story which is sure to entertain. It’s just the beginning of good things.

13.  Visaranai

Vetrimaaran’s much sought-out project which has been in the making for quite some time. Both the cast and crew have been raving about it, saying that it will be ‘next-gen cinema’. Very very interesting. It is said to be shot at a length of nearly one hour duration.

14.  Untitled Vishal Suseendhiran project

After the amiable Pandianadu, Suseendhiran and Vishal get together for a police episode which is about to get on floors by the end of the month. With Kajal Agarwal playing the female lead and the track record of the director, expect some raw action, strong emotions and subtle twists.

15.  Maari

Just when we thought Balaji Mohan is the go-to guy for feel-good films, Maari is coming off as a complete classy commercial entertainer. Dhanush, Kajal and Anirudh are big reasons to excite you.

16.  Purampokku

SP.Jananathan’s crime drama with an agile cast consisting of Arya, Vijay Sethupathi, Shaam and Karthika Nair. Industry insiders reveal that Purampokku has some grand visuals and an engrossing story, sure to leave a mark.

17. Thaara Thapattai

Bala and Sasikumar join hands for this drama which will come by with the director’s trademark turns in the story. Shooting has recently kicked off, and the film will arrive by the end of the year.

18. Idhu Namma Aalu

STR returns to the big screen after a gap of two years with his early darling, Nayanthara. Helmed by Pandiraj with music by Kural, INA is a good toast in the pipeline. Teaser for Pongal.

19. Irudhi Suttru

Madhavan’s manly comeback. A tough look with a bushy mane, it marks Sudha Kongara’s return to wield the megaphone after her debut – Drohi. Made as a bilingual in Hindi and Tamil, Irudhi Suttru was wrapped up in a short span of 42 days!

20. Isai

SJ Suryah returns as an actor, director and musician with Isai. When Sathyaraj takes care of the negative side, things start to look a lot much better.

21. How Old Are You remake

Jyothika’s much awaited return to the silver screen. The original was a heartwarming tale, and we expect this one to recreate the magic with a bigger reach.

22. Komban

Karthi’s Komban is a rustic village story which will be narrated with elan by Kutti Puli fame Muthaiah. Rajkiran and Lakshmi Menon in the cast, this looks like a king pick for the Bs and Cs.

23. Vaasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga (VSOP)

Arya, Santhanam and Rajesh join hands once again after Boss Engira Baskaran. Tamanna as heroine. Some slapstick, some sarcasm and a lot of fun guaranteed.

24. Naanum Rowdy Dhaan

Vignesh Shivan directs Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in this urban entertainer which is produced by Dhanush. Yet another project for Anirudh this year, totals up to an interesting project.

25. Iraivi

Coming from the director who gave us the best horror film of 2012 and the best film of 2014. What more reasons do you want to make this shine? All positives here.

Other Notable Films: Thala 56, Kaakka Muttai, Kitna, Demonte Colony, Muni 3, Kai Neelam, Kuttram Kadithal

Thala 56 could have been one of the anticipated films in the list, but the cast, shooting and the release date are still uncertain. Hence, excluded.
