Ram Gopal Varma responds to Sridevi’s legal notice

Acclaimed filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has responded to Sridevi’s legal notice. We earlier reported here that Sridevi has filed a complaint against Ram Gopal Varma’s film Sridevi and sought protection against infringement of her ‘personality rights’. Now, Ram Gopal Varma says Sridevi has misunderstood the entire scenario. “The title has been given to us by Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber. More over, films titled Sridevi have released 3 times in last two decades. The reason for titled change from Saavitri to Sridevi is that the previous right holder of Saavitri refused to give us the title,” says Ram Gopal Varma.

Now, Ram Gopal Varma says he is well within the legal rights of using the title Sridevi for the film and will stick to it. “My film has nothing to do with Sridevi, because my protagonist is not an actress. A name cannot be copyrighted and I will never do anything to degrade or demean Sridevi. I am deeply hurt by this action of Sridevi, whom I deeply admired and respected,” adds RGV.
