AR Rahman’s son to sing in Mani Ratnam’s next?

Ameen Rahman, youngest son of AR Rahman, is likely to sing in Mani Ratnam’s yet-untitled film, hinted Rahman at an event yesterday. However, Ameen has already crooned the Na Na song in the Hollywood film Couple’s Retreat composed by Rahman. “A lot of filmmakers want Ameen to act, but I want him to concentrate on studying and not become like me. He might sing in Mani Ratnam’s next film,” told Rahman at an event.

Ameen gave his first public performance at the opening ceremony of 10th Chennai International Film Festival in 2012. He performed a short 10-minute medley on the piano from Roja along with students from Rahman’s KM Conservatory.

Meanwhile, Rahman’s presser yesterday was actually a prelude to his concert scheduled on October 2 in Chennai as part of the inaugural launch of Tamil news channel News 7. Rahman will perform only to Tamil songs from his vast repertoire. Singers including Mano, Srinivas, Karthik and Neeti Mohan among others will perform in the concert, which will last for two and a half hour. Songs overlooked in Rahman’s previous Chennai concert have been chosen from the long-list of 50 tracks, said Rahman.
