VIP: Dhanush beats Vijay and Ajith in US box-office

Looks like Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathari is turning out to be a money-spinner. Sources say the opening weekend collection has already grossed 13 crores in TN alone. The film apparently had an occupancy rate of more than 90% for the opening weekend and is minting money at the box-office. Elsewhere at the US box-office, the film ($203K) )has surpassed the opening weekend collection of Vijay’s Jilla ($190K) and Ajith’s Veeram ($180K) and stands only next to Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan ($436K).

VIP is already declared a hit and the next few days will decide whether it will be a blockbuster or not. Since Karthik Subburaj’s Jigarthanda is postponed, VIP will continue its stint in theaters freely for one more week. Dhanush celebrated the success of VIP on the sets of his Hindi film Shamitabh with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshara Haasan, PC Sreeram and director R. Balki.
