Sathuranga Vettai – Movie Preview

Con movies are one of the iconic and most loved genres in Hollywood whereas Kollywood is still coming to terms with it. But, the talk of the tinsel town right now is Sathuranga Vettai, a movie about con artists with a satirical touch on the lines of Soodhu Kavvum. There is a lot of positive buzz going around for the film and the makers are leaving stone unturned to promote it heavily across all platforms. We have compiled few interesting tidbits and snippets which would serve as a comprehensive primer about the film!

Origin: Director H. Vinoth was ready with the script of Sathuranga Vettai long back, but was turned down by a truckload of producers. Then, he happened to meet Nalan Kumarasamy, the director of Soodhu Kavvum, through a mutual friend. He met Nalan at his house and handed over the script to him. Since Nalan was busy getting ready for a trip to Trichy, he kept the script on the table and left home. Apparently, the bunch of papers caught the eye of Nalan Kumarasamy’s mother who read the script and liked it immensely. Later, Nalan read the script and promised Vinoth that he’ll find a producer

Manobala: After launching his new production house, Manobala was hunting for scripts which had good content and stumbled upon Sathuranga Vettai through Nalan Kumarasamy. In a blink of an eye, Manobala decided to bankroll the film for its fresh and original content. He then arranged a special screening for director Lingusamy, who enjoyed the film and immediately came on board to acquire the theatrical rights

Thirupathi Brothers, the game-changer: The amount of positive buzz, the hype and gravity for the film is reasonably huge and on par with Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattadhari, thanks to the voracious promotional campaigns of Thirupathi Brothers both online and offline. “Although creating a good story and selecting a good cast was my responsibility,Thirrupathi brothers have done a fantastic job in marketing this film and it is because of such good marketing that there is a good buzz around our film,” says director Vinoth in an interview

Cast and Crew: Renowned cinematographer Natarajan aka Nutty plays the lead role and a newcomer Ishara plays his love interest. It also has a good supporting cast in Ilavarasu, Ponvannan and Pirasdudan. Sean Roldan’s album received glorious reviews and he continued his good form from Vaayai Moodi Pesavum. This his Mundasupatti already hit the screens and brought him wide critical acclaim for his score, Sathuranga Vettai also thrives on his background score

Director Vinoth: My film is about the pace at which we all want to make money in our lives. It’s about the anger of common man who thinks money is the solution to all his problems. When there’s imbalance in nature, we experience tsunami and earthquake. Likewise, my story is about the imbalance in the social morals of a common man. The story revolves around six episodes and it has been narrated with a lot of fun, satire and dark humour. Audiences will also get to find answers to important questions about how most of us are making money
