Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun is regarded as one of the best thrillers ever made in India, and the director is back with his next film Merry Christmas. The film is a romantic thriller which has been interestingly placed out as a marriage of genres, and it does deliver the thrills and spills as we expected.

The film mostly happens over a night’s time, and puts together the pair of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif as a duo who accidentally meet one night, and happen to spend time together, only for their history to be revealed one by one. The first half of the film slowly builds the momentum, as it establishes the stories between both the characters and ends on a nice note.

It is the second half which is the more important of the two, and it smashes some interesting things one after the other, and culminates at the police station for a scene where all the characters come together. Though the surprises are revealed in a fashion where there are no great shakes, it does bring together a good watch on the whole.

The film largely benefits from the performances of the two leads – Katrina Kaif is superb and so is Vijay Sethupathi who does a fabulous job with the comic timing of his, and they form a formidable pair. The film also has a good support cast, Radhika Sarathkumar who comes in later is a solid addition.

On the whole, Merry Christmas is a fine romantic thriller from Sriram Raghavan who keeps up with his formula of quirk, thrills and romance together.
