Sometimes, simpler stories coming out from Tamil cinema work well and augur good feelings for those watching them. In the same line, director G. Suresh’s Erumbu is a nice and lovely film that has many cute moments in it along with a few surprises as well.
Erumbu is a film that almost entirely takes place in the summer holidays of two kids, who grow up in a struggling family. The film is about how about the younger sibling has many wants in his life, but isn’t able to get them due to the financial struggle faced by the family. The kids finally get their hands on a gold ring, but trouble comes in search of them when the ring is lost. Will they be able to buy a replacement ring without their family coming to know, or will they gather the courage to break the news to their parents – this is what Erumbu is all about.
Director G. Suresh catapults the film totally on the emotions faced by the kids, and how they try different ways to overcome the situation. The film never gets into entirely melodramatic situations, and carries the weight on the two kids and their lengths they have to cross in order to make it work.
While the first half introduces us to all the characters and sets the film in motion, the second half is about how an additional emotional angle is added to the film.
The performance of the two kids Baby Monica and Shakthi Rithvik are lovely, and they are the reason why Erumbu is such a likeable film. It is hard to get past the two kids in the film as they wonderfully bring out the fear, the hesitance, the happiness and sorrows they face.
Supporting them well are Charlie and MS Bhaskar, but the real points are earned by George Maryam who plays a tough character of the uncle.
The music by Arun Raj of Thadam fame is another big plus to Erumbu, as the composer delivers wonderful songs and an enchanting background score to the film.
On the whole, Erumbu is a sweet feel-good story that gathers a good amount of emotions and expresses them in a nice way to audiences. Erumbu Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
