Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal Movie Review

Vignesh Shivn’s films have always been about realizing real-life emotions in a funny and innovative manner. His films have scenes and sequences thought out in a way that actually trolls the situations but manages to also put a little heart into it. But for the first time, the filmmaker goes out of his zone to come out with a film that is opposite to normalcy, and puts his ideologies into a zone where it is hard to believe but still works as a watch.
Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal has Vijay Sethupathi playing Rambo, an unlucky chap who has nothing going right in his life until he meets not one but two lucky charms who turn his life on its head, and bring him a lot of good luck, only to entangle him in a spot where its hard to choose one over the other. Vignesh Shivn’s script idea feels like it’s come straight out of a Hollywood film, an industry where relationships are taken quite lighter than what it is here. The film takes this delicate situation and approaches it in a comical fashion, but the comedy here turns out to be on the lighter side with the film toned with more of drama.
Vignesh Shivn’s first half is filled with interesting incidents, especially when the lead character meets the two female characters and the set of incidents that follow. Though some would feel that Vijay Sethupathi’s character could have been played by someone with more of a chocolate-boy charm, the actor makes it his own and has the moments which play to the gallery as well. The second half, however, has a lot of artificiality in it which is a little hard to play with as the film gets repetitive beyond a point. The climax is also something which would not go properly with everybody and is a different try from Vignesh.
Vijay Sethupathi does his best to do justice to character of Rambo, but the show stealers of KRK are definitely Nayanthara and Samantha who rule the roost with their performances. While Nayanthara is bright and beautiful in a soft and mature role, Samantha dazzles with her style and looks which are simply the best we’ve seen of her in recent times.
Anirudh’s music is again the biggest plus point of the film, with Two Two Two being such a big energy booster on the big screen. There are a lot of other little songs that the composer has beautifully stitched into the film. The cinematography and the editing are neat, but the film could have easily been cut short by another 20 minutes.
On the whole, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal is a watchable romantic comedy that has its ideologies in a world of its own but manages to be mildly entertaining while it lasts. Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal Movie Review by Only Kollywood
