Soorarai Pottru to release on Amazon Prime, on October 30th!

In a path-breaking move, Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru is now going to Amazon Prime. The film will release on October 30th, across the globe. 

In a heartfelt note, Suriya has stated that he has taken this decision as a producer and not a hero. The actor looks forward to the experience of having his film released directly on an OTT platform. Below, is the official statement from Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime Video today announced the direct-to-service world premiere of Suriya’s highly-anticipated Tamil title Soorarai Pottru scheduled for October 30, 2020. Helmed by Sudha Kongara (Irudhi Suttru), the gripping Bio-pic is produced by Suriya and stars Suriya, along with Mohan Babu and Aparna Balamurali in pivotal roles. Soorarai Pottru is inspired by life of Captain GR Gopinath, a retired Army captain, who founded the low-cost airline Air Deccan. Prime Members in India and in 200 countries and territories can stream the film starting 30th October in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam (dubs in all languages) on Amazon Prime Video.

“The moment I heard the script from Director Sudha, I was sure it has to be told and I wanted to produce this film under 2D Entertainment”, shares Suriya. He adds, “Essaying Capt. Gopinath’s character came to me as a challenge, but we are very proud of our final product! These include Indian films Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi, Ponmagal Vandhal, LAW, French Biriyani, Sufiyum Sujatayum and Penguin along with Indian-produced Amazon Original series like Bandish Bandits, Breathe: Into The Shadows, Paatal Lok, Four More Shots Please, The Family Man, Inside Edge, and Made In Heaven and the award-winning and critically acclaimed global Amazon Original series like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Boys, Hunters, Fleabag, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. All this is available at no extra cost for Amazon Prime members. The service includes titles in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Bengali.

Prime members will be able to watch Soorarai Pottru anywhere and anytime on the Prime Video app for smart TVs, mobile devices, Fire TV, Fire TV stick, Fire tablets, Apple TV, etc. In the Prime Video app, Prime members can download episodes on their mobile devices and tablets and watch anywhere offline at no additional cost.

Taking into consideration of the creative people around him, Suriya has taken this decision, asking the theatre owners to support him in this regard. The actor has promised to act in 2 more movies for theatres, and has also donated 5 crores from the sale of the film to the frontline workers during the pandemic.
