Darbar Songs Review
Chumma Kizhi
Thani Vazhi
Tharam Maara
Dumm Dumm
Thalaivar Theme
Villain Theme
A mildly entertaining album.
Chumma Kizhi: Singers – SPB, Anirudh 👍
The call is for celebration and Anirudh comes to the fore with a tune that spells fun. There’s a lot to like with the way in which the song is arranged, especially the highs which are handled superbly by the ever-dependable SPB. The lyrics are a bummer yes, but this one does what it intends to. Our PICK.
Thani Vazhi: Singers – Yogi B, Anirudh, Shaktisree Gopalan
Anirudh slips into the mode which he’s already aced in his earlier albums such as Vivegam and Jersey (Padhe Padhe) – Yogi B helps it with his energy. The hero-cheering lyrics are easily hummable, leading to an enjoyable track on the whole.
Tharam Maara: Singer – Anirudh, Arjun Chandy 👍
This is a very non-Thalaivar like song, with a jolly and youthful ring to it. Anirudh brings back the color of a Kalyaana Vayasu, making it an enjoyable number that puts a smile on your face thanks to the lyrics. It’s going to be interesting to see how AR Murugadoss has picturized this one, our next PICK.
Dumm Dumm: Singer – Nakash Aziz
A throwback to the marriage songs of those days, with ethnic instruments taking over. Nakash Aziz’s vocals help this one through, no great shakes otherwise.
Thalaivar Theme: Instrumental 👍
Anirudh brings in the cheers with a short but terrific theme that comes in with the cheers. Top stuff.
Villain Theme: Instrumental
Another effective theme that works out well, despite its mild arrangement.
Darbar comes off as an album from Anirudh’s lower rack, with interesting snippets here and there. There’s a ‘nice but not great’ feeling lingering now, but it could go on and create magic with the visuals that we receive. As of now, a standard issue offering. Darbar Songs Review by Siddarth Srinivas
