Venkat Prabhu, with his series of wits, perfect comical situations and a free-flowing story, keeps the laugh riot coming in Chennai 28 II, his latest outing. He has packaged the ideal commercial elements neatly with the same cast along with some additional ones, including Vaibhav, fitting the right space.

The screenplay totally revolves around Jai and his marriage but still it doesn’t lose focus on cricket, the theme of the movie. Despite taking up a straightforward storyline, Venkat Prabhu’s narration holds the audiences with his trademark twists and a not-so-high interval. The film is also treated as a proper sequel with certain additions and is quite justified chronologically too with the makover of various characters.

All the bachelors you witnessed in the first part are married and struggle to play ‘perfect’ husbands, fathers and friends. Premji as in real life is still searching the Mahalakshmi in calendars. He seems to be in complete ease playing his role just like the first part.

The entire team takes a trip to Theni for Jay’s marriage with Anu (Sana Altaf). When they decide to play a local cricket match, a topsy-turvy turn of events follow.

As days passed everybody seems to be busy with their lives except Aravind Akash who is still playing cricket in Theni and has a fierce rival in the village – played by Vaibhav. Peppered with humor, emotions, family sentiments, Venkat Prabhu, here, manages to portray the problems of husbands who have ‘strict’ wives.

On the performance front, Venkat Prabhu has handled the entire team really well, extracting the best from each one.  Music and BGM by Yuvan Shankar Raja are quite top notch. Venkat Prabhu has also recalled some of the favorite scenes from the first part and retains the claps from audiences even now.  Gangai Amaran’s sweet cameo is a nice gesture recalling his old golden days along with Premji.

Overall, Chennai 28 Part II is a fun, enjoyable outing from Venkat Prabhu. He has scored successfully where his heart lies – with his young team.
