Iraivi Movie Preview

Director Karthik Subbaraj made a sensational debut in Pizza starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. His sophomore effort Jigarthanda landed appreciations from across the board including a national award for Bobby Simha. After dabbling in genres like horror and gangster thrillers, Karthik is now set to prove his mettle in handling human emotions in Iraivi – a multi-starrer featuring an all-star cast of Vijay Sethupathi, SJ Suryah, Bobby Simha, Kamalini Mukherjee and Anjali in the lead roles.

“Iraivi is about women, men and their priorities. It talks about women’s freedom, how men look at it and how women use it. The film is based on the women we see around us and how certain things are no different, no matter what class or background they belong to,” says Karthik Subbaraj about the basic premise of the film, which is all set to hit cinemas tomorrow.

The album composed by Santhosh Narayanan has already struck a chord with music buffs, with songs like Dhusta and Manidhi topping the charts on various music platforms.

Inspiration for Iraivi

Balachander sir, Balu Mahendra sir & Mahendran sir are my inspirations to take up an emotional story like Iraivi which will talk about women freedom. Iraivi is neither preachy nor about women empowerment. For the first time, I have handled human emotions in the film.

Kamalini Mukherjee

Iraivi is a coming-of-age story. I was quite impressed by his onscreen characters and the space each of them occupied. One can see the different layers of the character as the story progresses

SJ Suryah

I have always felt bad that audiences never respected me as an actor. In Iraivi, I feel I have stepped into acting for the first time

Vijay Sethupathi

Karthik Subbaraj is hungry to prove his versatility with this film. I consider #Iraivi as an important movie in my career

Santhosh Narayanan

For the background score, we have worked with musicians from Chennai and Sydney. Iraivi is very special to me. It’s one of the best films I’ve seen
