69th National Film Awards: Quality films like Sarpatta, Jai Bhim and Karnan snubbed!
The 69th National Film Awards were announced yesterday, and the word was put out for the films released in 2021. Apart from Kadaisi Vivasaayi which bagged the award for the best film and a special mention, and Shreya Ghoshal who bagged the national award for the best female playback singer (Mayava Chayava from Iravin Nizhal), no other Tamil film was recognized across the categories.
Quality films like Jai Bhim, Karnan, Sarpatta Parambarai and others were left out of all the categories, and even films like Maanaadu could have been considered for the best editing award. While a section of the people say that caste-based films do not get more attention from the north, and with the jury being from the north, it is possible that it did not go in our way. On the other hand, some others say that political reasons are behind the decisions made at the National Awards, which makes it another perspective at the issue.
