24 Movie Preview

After two middling attempts in Anjaan and Masss, Suriya bounced back to an extent in kids-drama Pasanga 2 where he played an important role. Now, he is all set to revive his box-office magic with the ambitious sci-fi time travel thriller 24, which has him playing a triple role including the antagonist Aathreya, who seems to be the cynosure of all eyes.  The film is estimated to release on May 6th in approximately 2150+ screens worldwide including 660+ oveaseas screens in 33 locations. The premieres have been scheduled in many overseas territories on May 5th evening.

Science fiction films don’t frequent Tamil screens and 24 shows lot of promise from the teaser, trailer and other promo videos released so far. With a fine lead cast including Samantha and Nithya Menen and a solid technical crew that comprises of AR Rahman, cameraman Thiru of Hey Ram fame, 24 has surely piqued the curiosity of film buffs.

We have extensively covered the film with our interviews of Suriya, Samantha and director Vikram Kumar.

Suriya

A big-budget film made on a big canvas with a varied genre is a rarity in Tamil. I’m not trying to hard sell ‘24’ as an accomplished project that can only be done by me. But, it’s really nice of Vikram Kumar to put together something like this

Aathreya is an author-backed role and he had detailed it really well. For the role of ‘Mani’, I had to be at my best. I wanted to be very young in my mind. It’s a charming character and I wanted to connect with my director

Samantha

’24’ is a complete Suriya sir show reel. My love scenes are the lighter element of the film. The role isn’t as mature as Theri but she will leave her mark. She will be light-hearted and lovable, and connected to the main plot. She is not just for romance and the songs

24 looks way better than what I imagined when Vikram narrated the script. I am overwhelmed by how it looks now. And Rahman sir adds such value to the film. For a film of such a scale, he is the right person

Vikram Kumar

When it came to playing a paraplegic, Suriya sir recorded videos of paraplegics and watched it attentively to learn their behavioural traits. He had the wheelchair in his home. He used to rehearse, send me videos on WhatsApp and ask for my opinion.

24 is primarily an antagonist film. It’s not a protagonist film. The journey of the villain is what 24 is all about. Aathreya is the most important person in the story. ’24’ can be done even without the hero character, but not without Aathreya
