Zero Songs Review

Review Overview

Uyire En Uyirena
Veredhuvum NijamaeIllai
Engae Ponaai
You Are In My Heart
Indha Kaadhal Illayae

Mellifluous, mesmerizing melodies.

Zero, in contrast to its name, is a terrific effort from Nivas Prasanna to churn out lilting melodies without bashing our eardrums. Although a minute old-world feel prevails, the essence of the songs and the minimalistic but effective orchestrations do make you stop to listen. This is an eclectic mix of touching music, something that hasn’t been seen in Tamil music scenes for quite a while.

Cast: Ashwin Kakumanu, Sshivada

Music: Nivas K Prasanna

Lyrics: Kabilan, Madhan Karky, Tyler done

Direction: Shiv Mohaa

Label: Think Music

Uyire En Uyirena: Singer – Anirudh Ravichander

A romantic song which actually feels like a pathos number. Anirudh nasals life into this harmless composition, which is taken forward by the lyrics. The ‘VinmeenVithaiyil’ combo waves their magic once again. Our PICK!

Veredhuvum NijamaeIllai: Singer – Haricharan

At first, this feels like a plain keyboard song with good vocals. But after the first portion, it attains a whole new level, drawing you in with its simple but scintillating blend of music and lyrics. Haricharan is the icing on the cake, making this our PICK!

Engae Ponaai: Singers – Vijay Prakash, Neeti Mohan

As you get deeper into the album, Nivas continues to hold his might with his stunning ability to belt out melodies, one after the other. Vijay Prakash does his part extremely well, but its Neeti Mohan’s fluctuating make-husky vocals that turns down the flame by a bit. Nevertheless, don’t miss the interludes.

You Are In My Heart: Singer – Natalie du Luccio

An English track in a Tamil film is something you see rarely. And here it comes, as Nivas puts Natalie du Luccio in her comfort zone. But as much as a whacky attempt this is, the overall incompleteness is felt.

Indha Kaadhal Illayae: Singer – Nivas Prasanna

The composer himself takes the mic for this relatively quicker song, where Kabilan once again rules the roost with his excellent choice of words. Except for a slight transition slip in the second interlude, this is a beaut. Our PICK!
