Zero adds excitation to every passing moment and could easily claim to be a perfect sci-fi thriller with all positives, be it the story, narration and performance from the limited cast. Altogether, with six characters on the screen director Shiv Mohaa has pulled this with no lags and could witness his belief in the script and the technical support.

Zero, as it has been named with a meaning has some interesting elements, like before as there are sci-fi movies that couldn’t fill the cup for the Tamil audience, this one in particular has been clear from the beginning till the very end and the intentions from the director for the audience has been set in prompt tone, he has definitely worked on the thrills & fictions and has exactly read the audience pulse.

Ashwin Kakamanu leads from the front and Sshivada Nair has put in some additional work for this and has fairly justified her role. On the other hand, Ashwin as a social activist in the movie has been flimsy with his portions but had been strong in taking care of his wife Sshivada Nair. Be it the emotions, scares and romance he has put it right proportions to keep the plot more interesting. JD Chakaravarthy in a template role indeed has again created impact with his voice and body language. Thulasi and Ravi Raghavendar in a small portion have filled their roles and adds some takings for their role, and in Sshivada Nair’s mom role a debutant has put the frames interesting and thrills her role with look and shade.

Ashwin and Sshivada Nair, a newly married pair goes in for a apartment and when they happily start their life, there seems to be tough life for Sshivada between reality and dream, going more into the dream world she loses herself and only Ashwin could find the difference and plans to cure her from her mental illness. Sshivada has had a bad childhood from birth, her illness has been inherited from her mother that makes the situations worse than would have imagined. What happens from there and what connects Ashwin, JD Chakarvarthy and Sshivada Nair brings the the twist and turns.

There are plenty in the plot to wonder if this is a thriller or a sci-fi movie, and in particular the technical support has been the back bone and has been flexible for the director’s visuals and imagination. Music and BGM has certainly been very prompt from Nivas Prassana and is in right chords, while cinematographer Babu Kumar has been in tone with the script and has angled it for a thriller, with editing by Sudharshan cutting it right. The CG is fresh and claims to the second lead after Sshivada nair, she in particular has held her nerves in all the scenes and been keen to watch in this fresh attempted science fiction plot.

Overall Zero may compete to be a sci-fi flick or a thriller in making and has been a surprise package that could easily make all spin a blink with wonder. An unexpected offering here, but it certainly fills this Friday’s thirst.
