Story theft case: Interim stay sought on Lingaa
Ravi Rathinam has filed a writ appeal in the Madras High Court bench challenging the dismissal of his petition by a single judge in Madurai High Court bench. Ravi Rathinam, who alleged that Lingaa has been stolen from a script he penned for his film Mullaivanam 999, contends that a single judge should not have dismissed his petition since the case amounts to police enquiry considering the contradicting statements made by KS Ravikumar and Rajinikanth in their respective counter-affidavits. We reported about it here.
“The learned judge has failed to appreciate the contradiction affecting the root of the contesting respondents’ case wherein the counter affidavits of the actor and the director are totally against each other,” says Ravi Rathinam who sought an interim ban on the film until the writ petition is dismissed. The appeal is likely to come for hearing on Monday (December 8th).
Meanwhile, another scriptwriter named Sakthivel has filed a petition in Chennai Civil Court seeking a stay on the film’s release. Sakthivel claims that Lingaa is based on his story Uyir Annai which he registered Film and Television Producer’s Guild of South India in 2012. Sakthivel also requested the Advocate Commissioner to compare his draft with the film’s script. The case is adjourned to December 9th (Tuesday).
