Director Shankar revives S Pictures with his assistant’s film

Director Shankar’s last production venture under his homebanner S Pictures was Anandhapurathu Veedu which released four years back. Two back-to-back flops with Rettaisuzhi and Anandhapurathu Veedu made Shankar to hold his film production for a while. Now, he is reviving his S Pictures to release Kappal, a film directed by his assistant Karthik. Kappal is a comedy entertainer starring Vaibhav, Sonam Preet, Karunakaran in important roles.

“I have worked as an assistant with Shankar in Sivaji and Endhiran. When I showed the film to Shankar, he was in splits. After the screening he told me that he had enjoyed the film very much and asked us what our release plans were. When we mentioned that we were planning to sell the film to an interested buyer, he surprised us and he offered to buy the film himself and release it under his own banner,” says Karthik to a daily. The film is likely to be released in November or December.
