Exclusive: All You Need To Know About Kaththi

Only Kollywood brings you exclusive nuggets and excerpts from AR Murugadoss’ interview to Ananda Vikatan magazine which is under wraps now. He talks in detail about Kaththi’s story, Vijay’s character, Samantha’s acting and much more.

  • On the controversy surrounding Lyca Productions: Not even a penny from our hard work will go to anyone who is against Tamils. I and Vijay sir will never join hands with someone who is against us. If someone is a foe to crores of Tamils and our tradition, they are our enemies too. We have collaborated with Ayngaran International only in the beginning. Then, they tied up with Lyca. When rumors surfaced, we thoroughly inquired and got to know that they are SriLankan Tamils
  •  Reason for the title – Kaththi: We did not name the film as Kaththi just because it would sound like a good follow-up to Thuppakki. There is an intimate connection between the film’s title and its story. In fact, some people still believe Kaththi is the first instrument humans ever invented. We have justified that point in the film
  •  Vijay’s Dual Role: Vijay plays two characters in the film namely, Kathiresan and Jeevanantham. But they don’t appear as father – son pair. The film is not a gangster saga as people would assume. The story starts from Chennai and ends in Chennai itself
  •   Story Discussion: After finishing Thuppakki, I told Vijay sir that I’ll narrate the story soon before we commit for our next. Vijay sir told, “Theva illa ippave commit panikuvom.” Then I narrated the story to him and came out. I received a message from him within a blink of an eye, “Super na.” Not even for Thuppakki, he said something like this. It’s because Kaththi is Vijay’s never-before-done and a different attempt
  • On  Samantha: I can never work with actors who doesn’t know the language I’m making my film in. That’s a difficult task for me. So, I expect our heroines to talk and understand Tamil. But, Samantha has exceeded my expectations for the role ‘Ankita’. She always carries a smiling face and bring a lot of energy on the sets. She has added more flavor to every scene
  •  On Anirudh: Four days after signing him up, he came up with the theme track for the film. I asked him, “Saaar, innum kadhaiye sollala athukulla theme music epdi?”. He giggled and replied, “Epdium padathula herokunu oru theme irukumla sir.”
