Trendy and topical!

Hip Hop Tamizha keep their respect intact with Kathakali, which is yet another attempt at experimental music within the brackets of commercial cinema. Hats off to their lyrical quality, something which they have been maintaining very well since day one. With the visuals, the themes should click big time, aiding the film to gain its much-needed pace and mileage. This is good stuff from the duo once again, inside four walls.

Cast: Vishal, Catherine Tresa

Music & Lyrics: Hipop Tamizha

Director: Pandiraj

Label: V Music

Azhage: Singer – Hip Hop Tamizha

Albeit the techno being inspired from the pop songs of the west, this is a superb track which catches your attention because of the imposing lyrics. The addition of the flute in the interlude makes it even better. Our PICK, first up!

Erangi Vandhu: Singers – Hip Hop Tamizha, Anthony Daasan

Good lyrics at the fore, a middling tune and instrumentations to hop along. Aadhi’s energetic vocals somewhat save this one, which should be held up by the visuals.

Kathakali Theme: Instrumental

At the start, this is a crossroad of light ‘chendamelams’ and japams. But then, it gradually shifts into a chant-cum-electronic assemblage which plays out very well towards the end. Experimentally electrifying theme this. Our PICK!

Kathakali Whistle: Instrumental

Add some mass effects to the former, and you get an equally chilling theme track. Midway, a descending whistle coupled with a fun-filled beat bowls you over.
