Joker is a film based on the society, which cautiously fits all ages of this generation. Director Raju Murugan holds no compromise on his script, with the bold screenplay gently travelling throughout the runtime. Joker’s flawless narration is its biggest asset, hitting the soul at the right time. With solid dialogues and whip-smart writing, Raju Murugan has managed to impress big time in his sophomore outing.

The film is a well-paced political drama or a gesture to the real life incidents of a common man. Direct and outspoken at many places, it hits the bottom of the heart showcasing the pain of the people who come from the rural parts of the country. A single man Mannar Mannan fights for all odds in the society, and Joker travails in his journey through the different paths in life, bringing out many harsh truths and untold details. Mannan’s main motive in the film is to bring proper sanitation for all the common people, and the reasons behind his acts are also revealed in a flashback portion. Raju Murugan makes us believe that how Mannan has been exploited by the public, officials, politicians and the police department is real and natural, making common audience accept that the things which Joker carries out aren’t foolish, but the actual fool of the society is the one who compromises his rights to make himself comfortable.

Raju Murugan has plenty to offer in his film, taking the plot straight out of the society. He puts in maximum efforts to make it look realistic, with his criticisms, anger, fear and revenge in full flow.

Guru Somasundaram as Mannar Mannan in the lead, has lent out an outstanding performance. He portrays himself as the president of the country and follows his heart. His fight for the right cause and his yearning to provide an eternal phase of happiness for his wife forms the base of the script. The supporting cast though less in number, have been used aptly creating a difference on the whole. Sean Roldan’s music is the lynchpin of Joker, while all the other departments such as the cinematography, art and editing have supported the director’s script.

It’s great to see a director finally depicting the way out of poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and innocence. Joker’s crisp dialogues hit the bitter truth, making you laugh, angry and put on your thinking cap. This is a film not-to-be-missed, and will be remembered in the long run.
