That Santhosh Narayananan is proving to be a promising music composer film after film won’t be an understatement. Jigarthanda, a musical gangster film in the neo-noir genre could finally be the film for Santhosh where his compositions have all the chances to be dissected and discussed by music enthusiasts in future. He looks never tired of innovating sounds and he has got a winner here. Jigarthanda, easily, is SanthoshNarayananan’sbest album so far.
Kannamma–Sung by Rita and Antony Dasan, this is a rejuvenating track blending folk and western perfectly. Also, the best track of the album. It has odds stacked in its favour to become a cult classic in future. We recommend this!
Ding Dong – Starts with the inappropriate lines of Bobby Simha of SoodhuKavvum fame, the song takes a different shape once Mose kicks in with his rap piece. The song’s real face belongs to Arun Raja though. This one is a passable western piece.
Paandinaattu Kodi – Blaring sounds followed by pummelling drums, this one is a typical folk song describing the land of Madurai gangsters. Antony Dasan has killed this one with his clean singing.
HooHaa – A short instrumental beautifully orchestrated with whistling sounds setting the background from Australian band Sean Roldan accompanied by Santhosh.
Dhesayum Izhandhene – Sung by MeenakshiIyer and Santhosh Narayanan, this melodic piece is a compelling song which captivates your heart at the first listen itself. We recommend this!
Jigar – Pradeep Kumar and Santhosh Narayanan are known for producing fantastic songs in their earlier outings. They make a beautiful combo and Pradeep is emerging as a bankable singer for Santhosh. Jigar is a mind-boggling track, that lingers with you!
Thanda – Another instrumental track in what looks like a recurring piece to appear in the film as a motif. We have to wait and see if this one is set for Bobby Simha.
Baby – Another kickass soundtrack. Zappy tune, peppy sounds make this such a spirited song to listen. Quite enjoyable. Sung by Santhosh himself, this one is highly recommended!
Ottam – This is the third instrumental track of the album and a boring number to listen. But, we have to appreciate Santhosh for including the instrumentals in the soundtrack. Imman is another composer who never misses to include karaoke versions in his album. And so does Ghibran.
