24 Songs Review

Review Overview

Naan Un
Mei Nigara
Punnagaye
Aararoo
My Twin Brother
Kaalam En Kadhali

Advanced pyrotechnics, deceiving tunes.

24 has more of AR Rahman's technical mastery, contrary to his simplistic but lovable music which is now going down in number. This is definitely not a load to push away, yet the bar set for his standards are visibly much higher than what we get here. 24 has just enough in it to keep us engaged until his next offering.

Cast: Suriya, Samantha, Nithya Menen

Music: AR Rahman

Lyrics: Vairamuthu, Madan Karky

Director: Vikram Kumar

Label: Eros

Naan Un ; Singers : Arijith Singh, Chinmayi – Typical AR Rahman melody by its tune, but the two singers in Arijit Singh and Chinmayi totally propel this up miles. This holds tons of instant hit value, and goes on to become our PICK.

Mei Nigara ; Singers : Sid Sriram, Sanah Moidutty, Jonitha Gandhi – Trust AR Rahman to come up with an experimental number in every album of his. This time in 24, it’s Mei Nigara which comes off in that category, packed with its random synths and choice of vocalists. Sid Sriram finds his form, and does well though the song doesn’t strike full monty thanks to the uncontrolled flow. We PICK this.

Punnagaye ; Singers : Haricharan Sesh, Shashaa Tirupati – Haricharan does a great job in Punnagaye, which is a passable track if you can withstand the inconsistent transitions. The frequently fluctuating tune is the villain here, making it dip despite Vairamuthu’s magic with the pen.

Aararoo ; Singer : Sakthishree Gopalan – A simple, functional tune which doesn’t make any big noises and at the same time, isn’t too bad to toss away either.

My Twin Brother ; Singers : Srinivasa Krishnan, Hriday Gattani – A terrific theme track well within the mood of the film. You will surely love the way in which Rahman puts the mixture of chants, keys and howls together. With tense action blocks, this is the star of the album. Another PICK.

Kaalam En Kadhali ; Singers : Benny Dayal, Shashwat Songh, Abhay Jodhpurkar – A stylish intro song which more or less lacks the fire of the AR Rahman composition. However, Benny Dayal takes this on his head and makes it enjoyable, especially after the first interlude.
